Nike ZVEZDOCHKA by Marc Newson「
The Nike ZVEZDOCHKA by Marc Newson debuted in 2004 with 5 color variations. In 2010, to celebrate the opening of Transport at Gagosian Gallery, an exclusive colorway was released presenting Marc Newson’s speed boat design.
ZVEZDOCHKA is the name of Soviet space dog, named by Yuri Gagarin. On March 25th, 1961, ZVEZDOCHKA was sent into orbit and came back to earth safely.

Although the Nike ZVEZDOCHKA was designed for astronauts in zero-G environment with very limited functionality for consumers living on the earth, the production of Nike ZVEZDOCHKA is a perfect example of utilizing industrial techniques for shoe production. The shoe design was modeled entirely on a computer. Its modular concept is many years ahead the other products taking modulars into consideration.
It was early in 2004, when we look back at this design, we can still see how innovative and pioneering it was, and how generous Nike was to spend money in R&D.
